Evaluators Sharing Meeting

Our September 8, 2026, webinar will be a PHAA Evaluators Meeting (to which PHAA parents are also invited). Topics will include how PHAA evaluators can meet PHAA's child-abuse clearance requirements and PHAA’s proposed response to the PDE’s new home education guidelines.

In May 2026, the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) updated their Home Education and Private Tutoring Guide. Pages 34 and 35 are entirely new suggestions in order to specify what the word "years" means in the high school graduation requirements for Pennsylvania home education programs. The home education law requires, 4 "years" of English, 3 "years" of mathematics, 3 "years" of science, 3 "years" of social studies, and 2 "years" of arts and humanities for graduation, but the term "years" is not defined. These guidelines attempt to provide a definition.

We will discuss PHAA's proposed response to these guidelines at our webinar on September 8, 2026. Then on September 22, Our Board of Directors will finalize our response and then share it with Thomas J. Dubbs, Basic Home Education Associate II in the School Services Office at the PDE, who has asked us for feedback.
