Register for Conference

This year’s PHAA virtual conference will take place from 9am to 5pm on Monday March 15. The fee for members of your family to participate in as many Zoom sessions as they wish is:

  • $5 per family if you register by January 31
  • $10 per family if you register by February 28
  • $15 if you register by March 14
  • $20 on the day of the conference

After you register (in the online store at www.phaa.org), your family will be emailed the Zoom links for the sessions so that members of your family can participate in whichever live sessions they choose.

The theme of the conference is “The New Normal for Homeschooling in Pennsylvania.” After the keynote address at 9am, there will be two simultaneous threads as shown below. The sessions in the Presentation sessions will feature presenters, but there will be time for your questions. The Discussion sessions will feature you!

Presentation Thread

9am. Keynote Address: Finding Resilience as We Shape our 'New Normal', Susan Richman

10am. Ins and outs of the PHAA diploma program – requirements, examples, a chance to get all your questions answered, Dr. Howard Richman, PHAA executive director.

11am. Finding your voice in challenging times -- PHAA student speech contest – moderated and judged by Shay Jones, PHAA evaluator and college speech teacher. $50 prize for first place, $25 for second place and $10 for third place. Speeches must be 5 minutes or less. To enter, email shay.h.jones@gmail.com. Don't delay - the number of entrants is limited!

Noon. Results of our 2020 PHAA graduate survey, Tim Anger, Howard Richman and Laszlo Pasztor

1pm. So You Need to Write a Research Paper – helping students through the process and gaining a vision for the task, Dr. Patti Stoudt, PHAA evaluator and writing instructor.

2pm. Social Media: How it affects kids and ways we can immunize them, Don Hill and Bonnie Gonzalez

3pm – 4:40pm. Advanced Placement Courses from PA Homeschoolers AP Online, presented by Susan Richman and a panel of AP teachers.

4:45 – 5pm. Speech Performances.. Winners of the 11am speech contest will give their winning speeches again.

Discussion Thread

10am Homeschooling in a virtual world, discussion session led by Susan Richman and Bonnie Gonzalez

11am Making the Transition to High School at Home – have all your questions answered while you gather ideas to create your new normal, Panel of experienced PHAA mothers led by Patricia Richman. The session will be introduced by PHAA Administrative Assistant Rachel Hill.

Noon How did the virtual evaluations go? What would you do differently? discussion session especially for evaluators led by Bonnie Gonzalez and Susan Richman

1pm Unique roles of fathers to support, encourage, and comfort – discussion session especially for fathers led by Tim Anger, Don Hill, and Laszlo Pasztor.

2pm AP Courses forming an AP community -- making friends and forming a community with your fellow AP students, discussion session led by Susan Richman with a panel of students in AP Online classes.

3pm Excelsior Webzine – creating online and bringing students together virtually, discussion session especially for students led by Keira Frankman and the Excelsior Staff.

4pm - 4:40pm PHAA Annual Membership Meeting – elect a Board Member, consider by-laws changes, discuss how our virtual conference and graduation ceremonies went, chaired by Howard Richman, PHAA executive director. For PHAA members (parents, evaluators and board members) only.
