As a former homeschool mom of seven, I have served as elementary and secondary evaluator since Act 169 was passed. Hailing Kutztown University as my alma mater, I received both my bachelorís and masterís degrees from this fine university. I am permanently certified in both PA and Texas, having taught pre-first grade in the Quakertown School District and second and third grades in the Dallas Independent School District. Presently employed full-time as a building sub at the Freshman Center in the Quakertown Community School District, I am actively certified and am also on call for emergency subbing at all the elementary buildings at any time of the day. Itís a fun and varied job.
One of my greatest joys was to test and evaluate my own third grade granddaughter this year. My oldest daughter is homeschooling her four children, with one more on the way. My second daughter is a new mother of a two-month-old boy, having graduated from Philadelphia Biblical University and serving as counselor at Vantage in Souderton (an alternative school) before the birth of her son this spring. My third daughter teaches third grade English as a Second Language in the Reading School District, after graduating summa cum laude from Kutztown University. My fourth daughter graduated cum laude from Messiah University with a business degree, presently working at a computer company in Mechanicsburg. My 23-year-old triplets are busy seeking their life goals. Both boys are pursuing computer studies at the community college, and Susanna, our special Down Syndrome daughter, is the best bagger Giant has yet seen.
My husband and I withdrew our first daughter from the public school in the middle of her first grade and homeschooled the rest of the family through high school. We are convinced that homeschooling offers advantages that no other educational experience can provide.
